By Meera Satpathy

As the Chairperson of Sukarya, it is my privilege to share the journey and aspirations of our pioneering campaign, “Ghar Se Shuru,” launched in 2022. This initiative marks a significant stride in our enduring commitment to catalyze social change, starting from the most fundamental unit of society – the family.

This visionary step forward is designed to catalyze social change from the most fundamental level of society—our homes. This transformative initiative is rooted in the belief that genuine, lasting change begins within the intimate confines of our households. It is here, in the home, where we lay the foundation for decision-making skills, problem-solving abilities, personal hygiene, meal preparation capabilities, and communication skills. We firmly believe that we do not have to wait until children reach high school to teach them life skills. By catching them young, we can teach them to make the right choices, setting the stage for a brighter future characterized by healthier women and children, enhanced education, empowerment, and a steadfast commitment to positive transformation.

Maternal Child Health and Nutrition: A 25-Year Legacy of Service

For over a quarter of a century, Sukarya has been at the forefront of advocating for the well-being of mothers and children, with a specific emphasis on combating anemia and malnutrition. Our unwavering commitment in this arena has shaped a legacy of dedication and significant impact, proving that focused, sustained efforts can yield transformative results.

Frontline Warriors: Community Health Workers (CHWs)

The heart and soul of our Maternal Child Health and Nutrition program are our Community Health Workers (CHWs). These dedicated individuals are crucial in disseminating health education and ensuring the well-being of mothers and children. Their role is pivotal in bridging the gap between the community and the healthcare system, making them indispensable in our quest for a healthier society.

Prioritizing Solutions through Well-being

A fundamental aspect of our “Ghar Se Shuru” approach is the emphasis on the well-being of our CHWs. By prioritizing their health, we enable these frontline workers to gain intimate insights into the challenges surrounding anemia and malnutrition. This understanding equips them with the knowledge necessary to formulate and implement effective solutions.

Gender Equality Program: Empowering Adolescent Girls

Our efforts extend beyond healthcare, with the Gender Equality Program focusing on empowering the next generation of women. This initiative is dedicated to equipping adolescent girls with the skills and knowledge required to navigate a world that is often fraught with gender-based challenges, ensuring they are prepared to lead and inspire change.

Change Agents: Lead Girls in the Community

At the core of the “Ghar Se Shuru” campaign is the recognition of parents as central figures in shaping household dynamics. The Lead Girls within our Gender Equality Program emerge as dynamic change agents, working tirelessly to dismantle societal norms and advocate for gender equality.

Informal Education for Slum Children: Education on Wheels Program

Recognizing the disparities in educational access, our Education on Wheels Program brings learning directly to the doorsteps of underserved children in slum areas, ensuring that no child is left behind due to their geographical or socioeconomic status.

Fostering Nurturing Environments

In both our Gender Equality Program and the Education on Wheels Program, we place a strong emphasis on engaging and educating parents, recognizing their pivotal role in creating nurturing environments that promote positive health practices, gender equality, and educational attainment within the family.

Ghar Se Shuru Campaign: A Transformative Approach with Every Change Agent at Home

Launched in 2022, the “Ghar Se Shuru” campaign is a transformative approach to social change, recognizing the role of every community member as a change agent within their own home. This initiative invites every member of the community to be an active participant in the journey towards a brighter and more equitable future.

Conclusion: Shaping Tomorrow, Starting Today

As we forge ahead with the “Ghar Se Shuru” campaign, Sukarya stands as a beacon of hope, empowerment, and transformative change. We are not merely calling to action; we are pledging to transform lives from within, laying the foundation for a lasting societal impact. As we continue to empower community health workers, nurture future leaders, and foster educational opportunities, we are confident in the ripple effects of positive change that will emanate from our efforts.

In the evolving narrative of “Ghar Se Shuru,” Sukarya reaffirms its commitment to creating a brighter tomorrow, one empowered household at a time. The journey towards social transformation is ongoing, and with unwavering dedication, we are illuminating the path for a future where homes become catalysts for positive change, echoing the transformative spirit of “Ghar Se Shuru.”
